The Bible teaches us that we can be forgiven of our sins and have a new life starting now, and that this new life will include a relationship with God Himself that will never end. Jesus said that eternal life is to Know God through Him.
One of the first things that we need to do in order to Know Jesus is realize how much sin breaks the heart of God. “For the wages (what we are owed) of sin is death…” Sin is breaking the commands of God, but this description falls short of explaining the why of sin. Sin is the perversion of the good gifts of God. Why has God established boundaries about any particular issue? Because He loves us and knows what is ultimately best for us. Because sin goes beyond the boundaries God has established we find that it also mocks the Creator. Sin matters to God, it should matter to us as well. Sin does something else besides break the heart of God, it harms the individuals involved, and it also eternally separates us from God. He is pure and holy and cannot allow sin into His presence or into Heaven. Sin corrupts everything it touches.
Once we grasp that sin is a big deal and that it is separating us from God, and that it is harming ourselves or others, that it mocks the very one who creates us, we need to also Understand how much God loves us. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God loves His creation so much He made a way for us to be clean and pure - - Jesus Christ death on the cross. When Jesus died on the cross, He was taking our place. He was taking the punishment we all deserve, He was exchanging His perfect, sinless life for ours. All that God asks of us is to repent and believe.
Turn from your way and trust in Jesus’ sacrifice. “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved…”
Trust that Jesus paid the penalty for your sins. “But God demonstrates his own love toward us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.”
When we call upon Jesus trusting in Him, God saves us from the penalty of our sins and keeps us saved from them. “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The gift of God isn’t based on our performance or on our religion; it is based on the sacrifice of God the Son for our sins and our trust in him.
I truly hope that you will come to trust in Christ Jesus and pray, “God, please forgive my sins and save my soul today! I believe Jesus died for my sin and rose from the grave. I am trusting in Him to save me and keep me. Amen.”
